An impromptu gallery exhibition for graduating seniors. The theme of the show was Weightlessness. By nature, the definition of weightlessness is "to be without apparent weight, as a freely falling body or a body acted upon by a force that neutralizes gravitation."
For this exhibit, I challenged myself not to design a graphic solution, but to convey an idea through time and space; an excursion into three dimensional representation. By repackaging one hundred Swiss truffles and hanging them from twine, I was able to construct an implied obelisk. As the chocolates were consumed by the viewers, the twine recoiled, changing the shape and meaning of the installation’s identity. This work embodied an intimate engagement from the viewer through an evolving architectural presence, from structured form to spiraling whimsy.
This work directly corresponded to a long-distance relationship, in which intense emotions of affection and deceit were leveraged with indulgent gifts, trips, and an evasive sense of equitable commitment. Artistic direction was inspired by the work of conceptual artist Félix González-Torres.
